How media portrays men

Media is the most influential thing in this world because most of us have their T.V, radio and other devices that can see in our home, but how media portrays the role of male in movies? Most of the action movies have a male actor who has the masculinity to protect their princesses but there is also a male actor that always manages to survive through luck.

In reality not all males have their strength and the muscles to protect the important persons and things in their life and in reality we are not lucky all the time usually we only have 2 percent of luck to survive in every obstacle.

Movies are setting an image of male that called Alpha and Beta stereotype of male. Alpha is the one who have the muscles and the physical strength to survive and to rescue her princess while Beta is a male who always hoping for luck or a friend to survive in the obstacle of life.

I read some article called “MediaPortrayal of Men — Alpha and Beta Male Stereotypes” by Breanna Redwin. This article shows us how media portrays a men, she divided it into two the alpha male which is a character is the strong silent type, an action hero, a big shot, or an athlete, the ideal of masculinity is the figure of dominance. He is in control of his own emotions and actions, and is often in control of others as well. He is physically strong, or socially powerful. He is probably physically attractive and aggressive. The alpha male character is likely to be either violent, or put in violent situations, which he is more than capable of dealing with. Another is Beta male which is is often found as one of the main characters of television sitcoms. Unlike the capable alpha male, the beta male is more or less incapable of everything. He tends to fail, and rarely tries to be successful. He is fundamentally worthless to society, and manages to survive through luck, or a capable mother, wife, sister, or friend. Some of line that she say is “These media messages influence both the expectations of society, and the development of young men.” This line means that media is most influential medium of entertainment and they setting an image of a male that is not good. Alpha and beta male is kind of men that is aggressive or a person who is always looking for luck or dependent to other, this two quality of male are the images of men in media.

In watching a movie we can obtain bad qualities of being a person and we should not let them control us, but we must only get a lesson from it. No male has to be an alpha male or a beta male to be accepted as a member of society. In fact the best way for an individual to reach their fullest potential is to be themselves.
